norcalguy,

I was under the impression that one needed a liver to survive. I know one doesn't need a gallbladder under some circumstances, but how does one carry on without a liver?

the only organs that you can "screw around" with are genitals. I wouldnt want anyone to screw around w/ my genitals , unless the doctor is hot.. and nice/gentle.

btw you can live w/ maybe 1/3 of your liver, so you can live w/o most if the surgeon makes mistake and cuts away chunks

okay everyone has been saying oh yeah i wanna be a neurosugeon and alot of other people say its hard etc alot of work etc etc

sooo how do you know it you should actually persue this career and not just be one of the people who just say they want to???

From what everybody tells me, it's not something you'll really decide until you're finishing up med school or even beyond. You have to want to be a doctor first; then when you get to the point of picking specialties (or lack thereof), worry about becoming a neurosurgeon or whatever.

sp816,

You get into med school, you do well on your exams (board exams), then you interview successfully for a residency in the field you want to be in, you complete the residency, and then you probably do a fellowship as well.

Worry about getting into med school for now.

I dont want to make any comments about what kind of surgeon/medical proffesion i want to pursue, but can someone give me a breakdown of a biochem major and if its something I would be interested in if I love math and science (mostly chem but am learning to like bio).

Unless things have changed alot, the pre med courses are chemistry, organic chemisrty, biology, physics and calculus. Those were the only sciences course I took in undergrad (yup liberal arts major), studied and took the MCAT’s. Today I enjoy doing heart surgery very much.
