[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Extracurriculars, multiple jobs from such a young age, recs, essays.
[] Weaknesses: Grades, Rank
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: They accepted me midyear, which means I would enter January 2013. They said they chose only the most “mature” and “creative” students for this program, i.e. kids who maybe had lower grades (our grades don’t have to be officially reported) but who they simply could not reject. This makes sense…coming from a performing arts high school, I am creative and due to my many jobs, I am mature. So…now I get to spend a semester abroad, working, volunteering, whatever![/li][/ul]General Comments: I was dissapointed to be a midyear, but now see it as the top advantage to choosing Brandeis.

Kwcece,
Did your midyear acceptance show up in your online status change, or the mailed letter? I’ve been accepted (haven’t received the actual letter), but they didn’t specify the term I would be entering in.

State (if domestic applicant): IL
School Type: public
Ethnicity: white
Gender: female
Income Bracket:…high…
Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.): double legacy, grandfather taught there as well.
Reflection
Strengths: I’m a double legacy, which they probobly don’t get very often. Plus my grandfather taught there so some of the proffessors remember him and my mother. Also my interview went SUPER well, and I did the arts supplement (singing and piano).
Weaknesses: my GPA is a little low
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I said on my application that I want to take a gap year to go volunteer teaching overseas, so I understand why they put my in the mid year class. Even though my GPA is a little low, I have so many family ties to the place its ridiculous.
General Comments: I was really annoyed at first because I was planning on taking a full year off (a gap year) and I made that clear in my application. But, now if I want to do my full year (Cambodia in the fall, Senegal in the Spring), I would have to go somewhere else. If I wasn’t already planning a gap year, I would love this at totally embrace the opportunity! But now they’re messing up my plans. :(

Reflection

Strengths: I think I really stressed how interested I was in research (which might have helped because I got chosen for a Lerman-Neubauer Fellowship) and showed how unique I was in my essays and whatnot
Weaknesses: My grades fluctuated a lot towards the end of my junior year
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I guess they liked me hahaha, I’m not entirely sure what to say, but I think I showed my interest in learning and research and I was a good fit for the school

General Comments:
I didn’t get my FA letter yet (it doesn’t come in the same letter as the acceptance does it?) but I’m really happy I got in. The Fellowship offer also bumps it up in my book, but I’m still waiting on 4 more schools so I’m not anywhere near decided haha
