Brandeis or Syracuse

So college decision time is coming really fast, and I’ve arrived at my final two: Brandeis and syracuse. I’m from Connecticut, and both schools would cost me the same. I will be majoring in political science/ international global studies, but I’m also thinking about business such as economics. I come from a small school, I’m catholic, and I’m not a huge partier but I can deal with it.
I really liked both schools, however I’ve heard so many different stereotypes and I’m very confused (maybe somewhat scared). I’m afraid Brandeis might be boring. And I’m afraid Syracuse will be overwhelming. Which school is a better for my major? And could you tell me a little about the social life? Thank you :)

Not even close.

With the exception of the communications program at the Newhouse School, Brandeis is far superior in probably every department.

If you are looking for Greek life, then yes Brandeis might be “boring” but otherwise there is no contest.

You are kidding, right? Unless you are playing football or basketball, Brandeis is far superior and you are very, very lucky that you were accepted.

Also the weather in Syracuse is some of the worst in the United States—and I spent ten years in Wisconsin!

Hi! Not sure if you’re still deciding. If not, hope you’re happy with your decision either way.

I am currently a freshman at Syracuse. I’m transferring OUT and it’s actually kind of funny, because one of my 2 schools I’m deciding between is Brandeis!!! I want to share some of my thoughts…I also came from a small school. I am fairly religious as well (Jewish). I am not into “traditional” partying, don’t enjoy smoking weed or getting blackout drunk.

IF THAT IS YOU TOO do NOT go to Syracuse. It has been a really terrible experience for me. Yes, some people like it here. But most of those people are in a frat/sorority and drink every night of the week.

In terms of academics: I am in the Honors Program here, so some of my courses have been ok. But in general, I am sure Brandeis has much better academics. The only program here that people rave about is Newhouse (communications school), but even that is more for the name and connections than the actual education (from an outsider’s point of view). And yes, the weather is BRUTAL. Like “even though my entire face is covered by a scarf and my huge coat goes to my knees I’m still freezing and getting frostbite” cold. And the campus is reallllly spread out, so good luck having a class that is even 10 min. walk.

If you have other questions, PLEASE message me. I would be so happy to talk about this…I wish someone had given me some insight before I chose.
