Brandeis to Boston

Can anyone provide some insight into how students get from the campus to Boston? I heard there was a bus/shuttle run by the university. Is it true that there are other methods besides the T bus (to Alewife and then taking the Red line in) How often does it run?

there's a free bus from brandeis campus to boston (harvard square and mass ave./beacon st) that runs thursday through sunday

schedule is here http://www.brandeis.edu/departments/public_safety/escoshut.html scroll down to Boston/Cambridge Shuttle Service

There's also a commuter rail stop on campus so you can take the train into Boston.

The shuttle is super convenient. Harvard Square is right on the Red Line and right in Cambridge which is great. The 2nd stop is a relatively short walk to the Common or right off a T stop at the Green Line and Newbury Street.

The commuter rail is a good option during the week and early before the shuttle runs. It's only $3 which isn't bad at all and totally worth it for some things (like Sunday morning dim sum runs).

how long does it take to get from Waltham to Boston/Cambridge?

From the schedule linked to above, 30 minutes to Harvard Square on the shuttle bus. YMMV with traffic.

Via commuter rail, 16 minutes to the Porter Square subway station (1 stop away from Harvard Square, add +/- 15 minutes to downtown Boston after a subway car comes) or 27 minutes to North Station in Boston (5 minute walk to Boston City Hall, 10 - 12 minute walk to Boston Common).

Looks like "about a half hour to 45 minutes" once the shuttle or train shows up.
