Hi, as I said I’m french and I know nothing about college in USA. I’m 19 and if someone from brandeis university can aswer some questions (if possible on skype) it could be really nice , thanks
Why don’t you post your questions here. Many of us are familiar with the school.
Ok nice, so How is the campus? how are professors? Is this a good place? because some often said that it’s near boston but Boston is as good as we said compared to other cities? Studies are difficult? because I’m really good in maths and physics so I don’t know if maybe other universities can be better than brandeis. Thanks
Have you taken the SAT and if so what are your scores? What do you plan to study? And why are you interested in Brandeis in the first place?
Brandeis is a bit outside of Boston which, yes, is a wonderful city. It’s FILLED with college students. Boston isn’t as cosmopolitan as New York City, or nearly as intimidating, but it has history, lively areas for young people, good food, and enough public transportation that you don’t need (or really even want) to have a car. It’s not far from beaches or woodsy mountainous areas. You can take buses/trains to visit NYC, Philadelphia, DC.
The academics are good, and respected, though it’s hard to advise since you haven’t told us what you want to study. The Boston area has at least a dozen fantastic colleges and universities, so there is a lot to compare it to.
thanks for your answers! I don’t know what SAT is and I don’t know how to do the test , but I’m in preparatory class in france. It’s pretty hard! Professors gave us an equivalent, I have 16/20 with these marks you are on the 20 first students on 1000 maybe, I don’t really know. I plan to study physics and it’s my correpondent who told me this university so I don’t really know I just search which university is the most adapted for me! katliamom I’m asking if the college is large? with lot of students? lot of place to pratice sports ? Is the diploma of this college well recognized in the USA?
Brandeis is a highly respected university, though not necessarily known by the average person on the street. Excellent location near Boston. Originally Jewish but not necessarily a “religious” school. A small school of about 6000 though half of these are graduate students. It had good science programs, but I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily famous for its physics.
If you want to study physics in the US there are lots of good universities - very large, medium, and small size. Brandeis may be an okay choice, but there are many others equally as good or better.
Go to collegeboard.org to find out about the SAT test.
What prepa are you in and what’s your actual prepa moyenne? What mention did you get on your bac and what were your five highest scores?
(In the US you just give the score, not the /20).
Register TODAY for the sat (it’s the last possible date), and study very hard in the next month. The questions will look easy but almost all French students do terribly on this test because it functions very differently than what they’ve been trained to do. You have to have speed and accuracy. You have about thirty seconds to answer questions (some will take up to sixty). And you’re not allowed a mistake. Seems easy for the first 20mn, except you are 3 hours if it. It’s not about elegant proofs, it’s about basics mastered 100% (100% here is literal.)
Brandeis is an excellent school, think Telecom, roughly. Boston is terrific for college students.
Look into Case Western Reserve too. URochester or Tufts (medium size) or Carleton or Bates (smaller size) would be higher (level : Centrale, Normale). Asu Barrett could be an interesting choice for Physics.
