Hello, everyone.

I have just finished revisiting both Brandeis and BU and was very impressed by both institutions…Now I’m completely torn as to which school I should attend.

Boston University has invited me into their honors program and has awarded me a sizeable scholarship. Brandeis has offered no money, but I have been continually impressed with the social and academic mission of the school.

Does anyone have any advice as to which school I should choose?

My ultimate goal is to attend grad school for English and get a teaching position at a university.

Thank you for any advice!

Brandeis was #3 on my S's list. I admit I was the one who insisted he consider Brandeis. The thought of him attending a school that was about 60% Jewish intrigued me.

Although he liked Brandeis, he wanted to be in a city, not in a suburb. And the variety of BU's academic offerings appealed to him. I don't know if you are Jewish, but BU just opened a brand new Hillel House, five times bigger than the old one, and BU offers a kosher dining plan.

Like you, he has a nice size scholarship and has been admitted to the honors program.

Regarding BU's English program, I know that there are some true luminaries such as Leslie Epstein and Hang Jin (is that right? Chinese professor who just published a new fiction book). Epstein has been director of the creative writing program for 20 years. (Side note: his son Theo is GM for the Red Sox)

It depends on what you want.

Brandeis-- suburban campus, one quarter the size of BU

BU -- urban environment, more course offerings and activities because it has more students than Brandeis
