Brandeis vs UMass Amherst for Science & Math

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Brandeis University, 29k scholarship
UMass Amherst 16k scholarship/ honor college
Major: science and math
Which one will you choose in terms overall education and college life? Not factor in the cost.

Two different schools. One large, top food in the nation, sports, Greek, etc.

The other very academic. Quieter. No Greek but access to Boston. Brandeis gets a C- for food vs A+ at UMASS.

Seeing both my kids go to a college that doesn’t have great food and seeing big restaurant bills and low blood sugar regularly, I think food is an underrated thing to think about.

I suppose reputation wise Brandeis is better.

Good luck.

If cost is not an issue I’d choose the school with the environment you prefer.
If possible I’d go to accepted students day at both universities before deciding.

We signed up a long time ago for an official campus tour, is it as same as admitted students campus day?

Typically admitted students day is more in-depth. Schools often post the schedule of activities online or in a correspondence at some point. But if you can’t make admitted students day then definitely do an official tour which should give you a sense of the campus.

Sorry. To Op, not @happy1

The admitted student days sometimes have a student panel, club fairs, etc.

In addition to touring, eat in the dining halls and ask to speak to a student in the department that interests you. Students are typically honest vs rah rah.

It sounds like you prefer Brandeis but UMASS is cheaper and are hoping the Honors College makes up that pedigree ?? An Honors college will change the experience in Honors classes which typically are few and are smaller (like regular Brandeis) but it won’t change the pedigree, etc.

But these schools are so different one should ‘speak’ to your student more than the other.
