Brazil Summer Abroad

Hi,

I am a rising senior and I have just started learning Portuguese this summer. I really want to spend next summer (the summer before college) being productive and acquiring a new language. Does anyone know of any homestay/ summer language programs in Brazil? How were they? I was also thinking of spending 2-3 months in some sort of exchange program. Because Brazillian schools are open during American summers, I wanted to be able to experience classes there first hand. However, I do not speak the language very well. Will this be a problem? How quickly did people pick up the language in their study abroad programs? Thanks!

Hey man!
Well, I am brazillian. Yeah. So I’d say for you to get a “good” experience with portuguese, because the actual SPOKEN portuguese is… pretty much different than what you study and see in books. I mean, not completely different, but i can take some time to get used to it and to learn the slangs (omg, there are so many). Also, Brazil is absolutely huge, you know that… So depending of the region you are, it can be TOALLY different the pronunciation. I mean, really.
Visit Education First website, i believe they have programs to travel abroad and learning languages, they probably will have something for brazil.
are you learnign brazilian portuguese or portugal portuguese? It IS very different. Very. Also, I’d recommend for you to study in S
