rahulnirmal, as long as you work extremely hard this semester to bring up your GPA, you should be fine. for someone in the 2nd year or higher, one semester of good grades isn't going to really change the GPA much.

versus--
1st sem freshman year-2.5
2nd sem-2.5
3rd sem (1st sem soph yr)2.5
4th sem (2nd sem soph year)3.5
=2.75 ---see, it's a lot harder to bring it up later on

the great thing about the whole grade not transfering over is you can take all of your hard courses at the local cc or another uni and make a C in the class so your school will give you credit and it will not affect your gpa.

So if you want your GPA to be high take all the easy A classes at your uni and all the hard ones some where else.

But the bull ***** part is if you decide you want to go to another school to get your degree they will look at ALL grades taken at ALL higher education institutes then will calculate a GPA.
Example: I was at a Uni this summer made a 1.5 gpa and now I am at a CC with a 3.0 gpa. None of the classes I took transfered over nor will they transfer over to the Uni that I want to go to. Still my GPA will be calculated as a 2.5.

Another way to boost up your GPA is read the reviews of your professor on sites like ratemyproffesor.com and then choose a professor.

rahulnirmal2000, the reason taking community classes is better is some things are required for certain majors. For me at UT we have to take calculus, at least 1 semester before applying to transfer for business. Many people aren't strong in math so they circumvent this by taking calculus at community college. Usually that's a lot easier and you just have the credit transferred over. If not, you take it at your school and you can end up with a bad grade and hurt your GPA.

I started out with a 0 for my GPA, then went up to a 2.1, then 1.9, now i am up to a 2.7 and will be at 3.3 at the end of the semester. With the amount of units i have taken though, it will be 35 at end of spring, it gives me some lee way to improve alot. Takes time, but no matter if it is only slightly higher, it is still an improvement

Damn it, thats what happened to me!! I should have taken it at CC, dang!!!!! I learned too late! Wish I had a time machine, oh well, better take my hard and irratating classes at CC now......

Yikes, SouthPasadena, you had a 0 gpa at the end of your first semester of college? Sucks, too much partying I assume? So you're going into your 5th semester of college right, you're a junior now right?

now, i am technically a freshman still after 1.5 years. That was after fall and winter, i had all W's and one F. I dont party really, i work and usually find my self to tired to go to class or unmotivated. I am just glad i have room (credit wise) to still raise my grade alot

so i know this is an old thread but…
i going to have like a 2.7-2.8 by the end of this year (freshman) w/ like 40-45 hours.

how many classes will i have to take this summer to bring it up to like a 3.3-3.4?
i want to transfer in the spring '11, but i really have to bring up this GPA.
thanks
