Broad majors and specific minors VS specific majors and broad minors?

I was interested in majoring in Middle Eastern studies and minoring in something broader, such as criminal justice (for a possible career in international relations). However, a college I have my eye on only offers Middle Eastern studies as a minor, with criminal justice as a major.

When seeking a job, how much attention do people pay to your minor? Is it possible to emphasize your minor? In my situation, should I keep looking for a school that offers my preferred major/minor combination, or is this not a huge deal? I'm not * too * torn up about flipping my original arrangement, but I was just wondering whether it mattered.

Thanks!

Is criminal justice what you really want for international relations, as it usually tends to emphasize law enforcement and corrections issues?

Choose a different college if you can. if you want to work in international studies, then you need to find a college that supports that.

Imagine if you are looking at applications…which ones would you choose for interviews? The one with someone who majored in international studies related topics or criminal justice?

Sorry. I should have been more specific - I’m interested in working with counterterrorism.

Look for majors like International Relations or International Politics. I think that coupling that with something like Economics would look nice on a resume. I suppose that Middle Eastern Studies might be a good minor, but those programs are usually…“fluffy”.
