Erica (top 3) is at Penn State

Evan (goofy guy) is at the University of Georgia. I do remember Elizabeth Romero- the girl who won- say she was a math nerd so I suspect her grades got her into NU (since we all know there is no MT audition to get in). I thought her voice was fantastic but felt like she needed to work a little on her acting. just being honest. They did make it seem like they cut Erica and that Kent Gash wasn’t impressed with the Kiss Me Kate girl. She was beautiful though. Brittany Dankwa is a senior this year. It was so unfair that so many of these kids were not featured at all. For instance, we never saw the girl from Florida. It also wasn’t right that when the girl was singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow on stage, they chose to show the boys backstage lipping the song. What a missed opportunity for her to be seen on tv. I wonder how many of the now seniors will audition for NYU as they received excellent coaching. It was so nice to see so many of my son’s teachers in action.

We enjoyed watching the series, but would have like to have seen more of the other kids as well. I thought there was a lot of repetition with the same handful of kids. Did enjoy the “behind the scenes” look at the judges comments. It is a lot to squeeze into a few hrs of tv.

I don’t wish to repeat a prior discussion, but if she is a Theatre major at Northwestern I suspect her talent – as indicated by her activities list, references, essays and resume – DID set her apart from the other ~1000 NU Theatre applicants. While her academic stats are no doubt fantastic, if Northwestern chose its Theatre students on grades alone every student would have perfect grades and test scores which is not who, in fact, is admitted. Admission to NU is holistic. If she entered as a VP major, which is what I’ve heard, then she also auditioned for acceptance.

I’m looking forward to watching “Broadway or Bust” some day as D is good friends with a prior years’ Jimmy winner and it sounds like a fun experience for those in states that participate. Congratulations to all who were involved!

Well- if she auditioned for the VP then that’s what probably got her into NU because her voice is fantastic. I’m sure she also had good grades or she wouldn’t have called herself a math geek. You will love the show because one of the girls is wearing a Northwestern shirt. I enjoyed watching all of the NYU coaches.

Well, I’m a little late to this party, but I just wanted to give people a heads up that you can watch all three episodes for free at PBS online. I just watched them in the last two days and really enjoyed them. It was especially fun to see all the NYU Tisch related studio space as well as some of the fabulous faculty serving as coaches. It sure made me proud to think my kid is studying at NSB!

Atleast two of the girls and two of the boys came from my area, and my D has performed with both the boys in the past. It was interesting seeing everything unfold, but I wish I hadn’t known the outcome from the beginning!
To me, the most powerful lesson displayed throughout was the subjectivity of the different trainers and judges, which is the reality in that business. There are many that sing, dance, act…and do all three very well, but few have that added something that gets them to the next level.
One thing that stood out for me was when one of the judges commented on the importance of staying in character while not featured in the small groups. Whenever I watch shows, I look for that too. This is so important in my book to be in character 100% of the time.

My D’s friend just posted the YouTube video to facebook of the boys medley that he was in, so I watched it and got a chance to see/hear many of the boys that we didn’t get to see on the show. All I can say is WOW. One beautiful voice after another. It sure is humbling to see all of that talent out there.
