@TheOldTimer The letter specifically says: “By no means should you interpret the Board’s vote to defer a final decision on your application as a denial of admission. The majority of our Early Decision applicants are neither accepted nor rejected, but deferred; and your application remains very much under active consideration. Our decision means that the Board wishes to have additional time to review your application again in the Regular Decision applicant pool. You should know that during the past few years the admission rate for students deferred Early Decision has been consistent with that for Regular Decision applicants.”
@sciencenerd123 : Wow! I choose to believe that is true since school indeed put it in writing. The way I calculate this year’s RD acceptance rate is by using last year’s RD acceptance rate (6.9%) as base and taking into consideration of 10% more total applicants (10% more ED applicants compared with last year also) and the fact that more candidates were accepted at ED round. This will reduce about 80 spots in RD round. 6.5% RD acceptance rate estimate is very conservative.
@jaseee ahh I didn’t notice that. well, I’m glad the deferral letter is gone. I’ve read it way too many times :(. It means nothing, just that they are getting ready to release decisions on the 28th so there’s no use in having those letters there anymore.
I know this doesn’t really matter at this point as most decisions have already been finalized, but I’m wondering if any of you deferred applicants who sent in updates or a letter of continued interest to your AO received any response? I emailed a letter of continued interest to general admissions and my regional officer waaay back in late January, but never got a response—not even a short, “thank you for the update, I will add this to your file.”
Although my guidance counselor assured me that the admissions officers are simply too busy to respond to every single email and that this was no reflection of their interest (or lack thereof) in my candidacy, it was nonetheless very concerning for me.
Should I be reading into this? Did any of you guys receive any confirmation when you sent updates??
@snowbird17 My rep responded five days after I sent out my email (I sent it exactly a month after the deferral). He said “thank you for your continued interest,” and told me that he added it to my file and that the admissions office would be happy to receive any more additional information. He also said “keep up the great work” and told me to let him know if I have any questions. I say don’t read into it. Decisions are coming out soon!!! Don’t stress yourself out even more.
@snowbird17 My AO also responded five days after I sent my email (less than a month after the deferrral) and thanked me for the updates (I included substantive new information). He also told me to “keep up the great work.” Nonetheless, I agree with @sciencenerd123 that you shouldn’t read into it.
@tiiicnnn She probably received it & added it to your file, and forgot to reply. Admissions officers are human and they are incredibly busy during this time of the year so I’m sure it’s all good!

great news for you. My D is a junior. Loves Brown. Trying to get a sense of options for students who go for ED and get deferred.
@help2017 The world is their oyster. These 2022 kids will change the world, I have no doubt about that (and for the better!) Your D19 if she has her heart set on Brown, will have many other just as wonderful opportunities if there isn’t a spot for her there. But of course, the heart wants what the heart wants! :x
