Hey guys! Deferred applicant here
I’m trying to improve my app as much as I can for the RD round (although I am being realistic with myself, too, and know full well that I could just end up being rejected or wait-listed), but I just need some inspiration :). Does anyone know people who applied to Brown ED, got deferred, and then accepted?? What was the main thing they improved on in their application, that you know of?
Thanks!

haha yep I can…I’ve already thought about it but I don’t want to share it out in the open, I’m happy to PM it to you though!!
thanks for the help!

I know many students who were deferred, then accepted. Deferred does not mean that you need to improve your application. It simply means they are waiting to make a final decision until they’ve seen the RD round of applicants.

@ bruno14: But I also have a low SAT score, and I can take it for a third time in January. Wouldn’t it make sense for me to do that? And shouldn’t I try to make my ECs “pop” more or something? I don’t know, I just figured that would make sense, because obviously my app wasn’t strong enough this time around, you know? So I should try to make sure it’s stronger in the RD round…? No? Overthinking it?
and thanks for your help, btw.

I was deferred and then accepted to Brown. All I did was send a letter reaffirming my interest in Brown. I also listed a couple new awards I got, but nothing substantial. It is possible though! PM me if you need help!

From what I understand, deferral does not mean you are subpar. It means Brown considers you well qualified as a possible student, but not OH MY GOD WE NEED THIS KID RIGHT NOW PRODIGY level. When RD comes around, they’ll see if you fit in with other RD applicants, and then they’ll make their decision.

You don’t need to actively improve your app because that will come across as annoying to Admissions Officers. If you win an award or think you can win- go ahead! Just don’t seem like you’re desperate to prove yourself to Brown. Send a a letter to your officer, explain Brown still being your first choice, anything important that has happened.
