I'm applying Early Decision to either Brown University or University of Pennsylvania. I know they say you shouldn't ED unless you're positive, but I'm positive I want to go to at least one of those schools and I want to increase my chances of getting in as much as possible (even though some people may argue that ED doesn't truly help).

I know people say the two schools are quite different, so I guess I'll say what I like about each. Both are city schools (the cities are vastly different, though), which I definitely want. Both are liberal and have beautiful campuses. I like Brown's open curriculum, but I like Penn's school spirit and it seems like more fun.

I'm interested in pursuing a double major in Chemistry and Political Science. I'm also a lesbian, so I definitely want a gay-friendly school (though I don't think either school would be a problem with this).

The ED deadline is in less than two months, soooo. Input, please? (:

I concur, the best thing to do is to visit the schools. See if you can do overnight visit or shadow a student for a day to get a better feeling for each school. If that isn’t available just spend time on campus, do the info session, tour or whatever is available (even if you did them already) and ask a lot of questions, eat at the cafeteria (when my D was college-hunting she used to leave us at the cafeteria and try to find a current student to eat with and talk to) etc. There is no bad choice here!

Thanks guys! I actually have visited both, and the overnights are just for admitted students. But I’ve done the tours and info sessions and I loved both; I’m still really stuck.
