Brown Pre-College Program

I just got accepted!!! yay!

The only way it'll help, I think, is so you spent your summer learning something and not sitting around watching reruns.

My Opinion: attending the summer program at brown, harvard, ... whatever any ivy will NOT help you chances at those school specifically. Neverthless, it does show motivation and commitment to academics. Like Rabo said, it's better to spend your summer doing something worth-while and productive than just sitting on your ass all summer

masha, I definitely agree. I did a 3 week mini course at the Brown Precollege program, and did end up getting in ED. I think the program gave me 2 advantages:

Since I was at Brown over the summer and had a feel for the school, I was able to write my "Why Brown" essay pretty easily. Well, not that easily! But I was able to write truthfully and from experience.

My course covered physics, which is what I plan on majoring in. Like you said, this (hopefully) showed my commitment to physics.

So advantage #1 was Brown-specific, but advantage #2 would have applied to any summer program. The moral of the story? Do whatever you want over the summer, anything that seems cool and worthwhile. Just do something.

Yes, definitely do something! Not just to get into college. I started my summer doing literally nothing and it was the single most boring time of my life. All my friends had jobs and I was stuck just hanging around (on CC!) until I finally started volunteering at the library and got a job myself. But seriously, summer boredom sucks.

tell me about it! that was like my summer between freshman and soph years.. wow.. I DID NOTHING.

I read during the summer :p

I am doing the Yale program this summer. At Yale we take courses that are taught by the faculty and attend it with Yale students, is it the same at Brown?

I took a 3 week "mini" course. (You should ask lindseylujh about the more intensive, 7 week program.) The "mini" classes are designed only for high school students, but they are taught by professors and PhD candidates.

lol. i went for a week. the writing course i took was taught by two Brown STUDENTS. there were 13 or so of us in the class and none of us were thrilled with having paid 1000 bucks for two students to teach us. (they were not good teachers at all, either.) BUT! I met a couple of AMAZING BEYOND AMAZING people there, went to visit them in the winter, and celebrated as one just got into Brown early decision. The campus and environment are great, but it's NOT selective (if you send the check, you're in lol).

wow! that sucks about your class being taught by STUDENTS.. i hope mien isnt!

hey i went to Brown Pre-College program and it was the BEST 2 weeks of my life...i went out with a boy i met there and we actually just recently broke up- but still VERY VERY close friends..... It was a great experience( although this may sound cheezy)- but being there really changed me and i would go back cept im a senior. The only thing that sucked was that i lived in perkins for the 1st week and my classes were alll the way down thayer in the med building i think it may have been med. and biology or somethin like that. And for those who may go there or went that was a LONNNNNNg ass walk esspecially at like 8:45 cz class was at 9. but other than that....things that u must do is go see waterfire/ firewater( w/e) , go to the malll its amazing, when it rains get ur bathing suit and slide down the green ( wriston), see the bikers infront of the Gap at nite, go to the Pizza place i cant remember the name - antonios or somethin...That will be some of the best pizza u will ever have..., Play frisbee, pull an all niter and just walk around with a group of ppl...and go to the sprinklers and play at like 5 AM. BE open cz there is a range of ppl there and u gotta accept everyone or else u wont make friends...P.S alot of the international students( males) are hott...so thats a plus- well atleast when i was there....hehe

yup, the international guys were definitely hot! they were a bit too old though. lol

hey i have just applied, but im going on 2 weeks from when i sent all of it in. I am worried that i have heard nothing. I am a student with a 4.1 if that matters haha. and if i get in, how long of a course should i take? im thinking about doing a 2 week course with a friend, but im thinking bc of all the great reviews that i should go for longer? soo, how long of a course do u recommend?
