Just wondering if anyone is familiar with the Daniel Noyes Brown Scholars Program in Primary Care at Columbia. It is aimed towards people interested in PC with non-English speaking communities and provides mentoring and some research funding.

Not many specific details about the program are given and it's not entirely clear how and when scholars are selected.

A shot in the dark, but any knowledge of the program would be welcomed!

The scholars are chosen internally after acceptance based on a students desire to focus on PC. There are some financial benefits, as well as a load of networking during the first year and a half. However, this has been in many ways overshadowed by the newer Bassett program, where students spend their clinical year in Cooperstown focused on a longitudinal rural medicine experience. The biggest benefit beyond this is the 50% scholarship to Columbia. About 4 students a year are enrolled in the Brown Scholars Program and 10-15 in the Bassett. I don’t know the details about the financial aspects of the BSP, unfortunately.

Thanks, that helps.

I’m not sure if D1 has heard of the Bassett program or not yet. She’s much more of a city than rural person, but it’s something she should look into further.
