hey there. sophomore applicant! i don’t think i can wait any longer. i need SOME news!
Did any of you hear back?
@youcandoit123 I didn’t I thought we weren’t supposed to expect anything until Mid-May, no? (In last year’s thread, it looks like they got decisions May 11)
Whatever you do, don’t give up! Even if you don’t get in the first time, you can never ever give up! Get back up and try again.
Considering this is my second time applying, this is already me trying again. Lol.
Hey, guys! I am a little late to this thread, but wanted to introduce myself since Brown is most definitely one of my top choices. Good luck to everyone
So where’s everyone trying to transfer from?
@nym2018 Rutgers
@nym2018 uc berkeley. wbu?
@avocadough I’m applying from UMass Amherst
@avocadough im from berk too!
@Hopeful5319 No way!! I’m sorry it hasn’t worked out for you here either Fingers crossed we get accepted to Brown!!
@avocadough and @Hopeful5319 I was just recently accepted to UC Berkeley as a transfer for Political Science, what do you guys not like about the school/ why do you wanna leave? I’m strongly considering going there and would really appreciate your experience.
@SmartJarhead Congrats on your acceptance! Regardless of my personal feelings and experiences, UC Berkeley IS a great school. The reasons I want to transfer mainly fall to reasons for fit.
(1) it’s too large in my opinion so… (a) GSIs end up doing the grading, (b) classes can have up to 700 students, © there’s a huge housing issue, (d) and it creates an impersonal learning atmosphere in my opinion. I thrive in small class settings. (e) Getting waitlisted from classes is common here and that makes it difficult to get the classes you need which is very frustrating.
(2) The academics… (a) there’s a lot of grade deflation and suppression here and with goals of attending law school, my resultant GPA at the hands of grade deflation doesn’t work in my favor, (b) I’ve changed my major and Brown has a better program for it, © Cal places preference on STEM majors/fields more than the humanities I feel, and (d) I dislike all of the requirements Cal has, preventing me from exploring my many interests for fear of not graduating on time.
Additionally, some other factors such as wanting to be closer to home and not really “vibing” well with the student body here have pushed me to want to transfer.
Please note though that there ARE some things I like about Cal, and a bunch of my friends really love it here. But it unfortunately ended up being a bad fit for my needs and wants in a college experience. Granted, this is based on my own experiences and I have grown a lot here. Feel free to PM if you have any questions
@avocadough Those are all valid reasons and some things I’ve been concerned about as a law school hopeful. Thanks for the insight!
@SmartJarhead Of course! Hopefully it was of some help (sorry it was so long haha). What other schools are you considering?
@avocadough I just heard back from USC today so as of now it’s down to USC, UCLA, or Berkeley. It probably depends most on financial aid though and if the Ivy’s and Stanford accept me or not.
@SmartJarhead Ooh gotcha! That’s so exciting; you have some great options Congrats on all of your acceptances thus far!! I have yet to hear back from any of my schools so I’m super nervous!
@avocadough Thank you! and we should be starting to hear more this week! Where else did you apply?
@SmartJarhead Congrats on all of your schools! I was going to attend USC last year but it was far too expensive for me, so I am highly considering UCLA this year as I received my decision and financial aid package last week! I am in the same boat as you, waiting to hear from the Ivy’s, but at least we have great options already!! Good luck!
