Brown vs. Dartmouth

wow slipper. wow. you have helped me tremendously. i still have no clue. but once i figure out what i really want. this list will really help me!!

To be fair, I think everything slipper wrote is dead on, except that of course, she has a bit more about great things about DMouth in there because that’s where she goes. She’s correct in not making hte wrong assumption that Brown doesn’t have these features or something similar but just touting where she sees DMouth as being strong.

I think you have great choices, and in my opinion, the major differences are campus culture, location, and curriculum. Feeling out your preferences for those three areas is probably what should guide you because those are probably the most “real” ways where the schools have some pretty differentiating characteristics. Academically it’s really a wash and not all that different once you move beyond curriculum and structural considerations.

I’d like to say science is stronger at Brown, but honestly I don’t have the basis to make that comparison to DMouth, it’s a general perception I get. I’m a huge proponent of Brown science education, however, just to throw out my bias.

I did too, in fact, I’m surprised it took so long. However, he graduated seven years ago, so I’m not sure how up to date he is with how things may have changed.

I’m a senior at Brown right now, and quite honestly, I don’t think things are so different. None of the things mentioned are really things that change drastically over time, except social scenes which can. The assessment of Brown’s social scene v. DMouth is the same I hear again and again from other sources and what I experience as well.

Thanks again to all of you, especially slipper - it’s really refreshing to hear someone being so positive about their own school without feeling the need to denigrate another.

Having now visited both colleges, I find myself leaning toward Brown, although on paper Dartmouth appears to have the edge (it’s interesting to hear others say the same thing).

Bottom line: they’re both fantastic schools, and I’m sure that whichever I end up at (if I’m lucky enough to get an offer from either) will end up being the “best” in my eyes.
