Hey everyone,
I recently got admits from Brown and Northeastern for Masters in CS/Related Fields. I have been grappling with the choices for some time now and haven’t come to any conclusion yet. I hope you guys can help me out here. The problem that makes this challenging is that there is very little information about the Masters program at Brown from students. I am well aware of the amazing CS dept. at Brown, but what is not so clear is the outcomes and opportunities of grad students pursuing the ScM program. While I welcome all responses, it would be great to hear from grad students of the program, because, as an international student, I feel that the curriculum that Brown undergrads are exposed to widely differ in rigor and quality from what some of us are exposed to in our home countries ( it would be interesting to see how grad students fare). NEU, on the other hand, has a large representation of students from my home country with similar academic backgrounds, so at least expectations and outcomes are well documented with the excellent co-op system that they have.
So back to specifics about Brown:
-
How rewarding are the courses in terms of academic growth before and after the course? ( feel free to take specific examples of course and Professors)
-
How is the ML/AI faculty at Brown ( in comparison to NE, if that information is available to any of you) because I intend to specialize in that area.
-
What are the internship opportunities that people have bagged through the program ( I would love to hear the average case scenario rather than the few students who get into Google, Microsoft…etc)
-
What are the job outcomes at the end of the program from past students and does the Providence location in any way hinder getting opportunities around the US? Again top companies shouldn’t have a problem with this, but what about the next tier.
-
Does the reputation of Brown add any benefit when it comes to getting at least the first interview call over NE? Both seem to be highly reputed in the industry
PS: Cost is not that much of a concern for me
Thank you and sorry for the long read
