When I applied to colleges using the commonapp, I was a permanent resident and had to list myself as such. I recently received my US citizenship in February, so when I filled out the FAFSA, CSS, etc. I marked myself as a US citizen. When I logged on to Brown’s FA site, they tell me I need to give them proof of my citizenship. Will all colleges request this now? How will this affect my FA outcome? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

I also have to add, I don’t have a physical certificate of citizenship. I automatically received citizenship as a 17 year old when my mom received hers in February. No certificate was given to me then, but I was told I could apply for one. The problem is that I’m applying for an American passport right now and I cannot apply for my certificate of citizenship until that’s resolved. So how exactly can I show them proof?

You need to call them and ask them these questions directly. I would think that if your mother has a certificate of citizenship, that might work for you, too.

i actually had to send my proof of citizenship to all of my colleges…im thinking that if you weren’t born in the US they make you do this because i received my citizenship years and years ago…so i wouldn’t be concerned…but i basically photocopied my passport and sent it to all of them with my info on top
