How many BS do people typically apply to?
I think that it really depends on the person, with the number of safety schools, reach school, etc., coming into play… I applied to nine schools.
11 schools. I think it’s necessary to apply to around 5 - 10 because BS admissions are so competitive.
wow, 11! How did you mange all those visits and interviews?
11, impressive. I am going with four since my local public school is a pretty good backup option, and since my dad isn’t completely on board with this whole applying thing yet
One of my kids only applied to 1 school (and was accepted), another applied to 5 and received 2 acceptances. Everyone’s situation is different.
I applied to 9 this year, but it completely depends on the person. I have seen and heard about anywhere from 1-12. Out of curiosity, anywhere heard of, or applied to more than 12?
^ Two years ago, my daughter applied to 13 schools: 12 boarding and 1 local.
@snapchat DS applied to 11, too, last year. I think FA makes a big difference
You mean if applying for FA, you should apply to more schools?
^ Yes
Still resting…one interview was on skype.
Haha, giving interviews and touring campus was actually fun. I do need full FA so I did ‘cast a wide net’ like everyone says to do. I usually did 2 interviews in one day. I don’t think my parents would’ve let me apply to 11 in the first place but I did do all the scheduling and picking what school I want to go to, so I guess they were forced to drive me there. Thank God my dad’s a truck driver, I don’t think anyone else can drive for 5-7 hours in a single day and still not be tired!
We applied to far fewer schools, despite needing FA… but that was because we have a pretty wonderful test-in magnet public school as a back up.
Wishing we had applied to more schools, given we need FA, but 7 seemed like a lot at the time.
I applied to six, and visited them all within 5 days. My whole family-Mom, Dad, and two little brothers-piled into our car and drove anywhere between 3 and 8 hours a day that week for a total of 2,000 miles. Crazy, and tiring, but worth it.
I have a friend who applied for 14 (!!) but I applied for 9. It seems that most people seem to apply for 5-10, though there are always outliers.
@emro12 we did the same…went one week for half of the 11 schools and went another week for the other half…and you’re right, a lot of the schools ran together and it was hard to keep them straight. But a few just stood out. And one of those ended up being home. We made a ton of memories on those road trips…just wait until you get to look back on them!
My daughter applied to seven. We visited 13 and whittled the list down. One admission officer (who happens to now be her coach) mentioned at the time, six as a good number: two easier admits, two matches, and two reaches. I guess as I look back ours was two, one, and four.
^again. Depending on FA needs. 11 schools 1 accept, 9 WLs 1 rejection.
