BS or BA? Important!

Is the international area studies major in the college of arts and science considered a BS or BA degree? Please help! I cannot find the information anywhere!

I believe all A&S degrees are BA’s. Why do you ask?

I want to major in international and area studies as well as in business administration, which is a BS. If I plan to double major and earn two different degrees, there might be a chance I will have to spend five years as an undergraduate. The minor in int. and area studies also doesn’t include the right concentrations for me

You can double major without earning 2 degrees. The BA/BS thing does not matter. You would most likely choose business as your primary school.

Ok thanks! Do you think I should double major in international business and business administration instead? They are both in the same school and have overlapping degree requirements

IAS and International Business are very different degrees. I would go with the one that interests you more - they have two very different focuses.

I thought WashU offered business as a second major???

^It does, but there are lots of advantages to having your primary degree be in Olin (or SEAS) rather than ArtSci. Which is why I know a ton of people who double majored in artsci as a primary business or engineering student, but can’t think of anyone who did it the other way around.

I’m sure they exist, but the business-as-a-second-major people I all know were engineering primary (typically Systems Engineers), not artsci students.

Ok thanks a lot guys! I will research some more and decide tonight!

@Johnson181 - what are the advantages of having the primary degree in Olin?
TIA.
