I have research a lot about the difference between aerospace engineering and mechanical engineering. I have come to lean towards aerospace engineering. However, I have come to understand that aerospace engineering does have less job security due to less job options as compared to mechanical engineering. The university I am attending does not have a program combining the two majors. My plan is to attend school up to masters to have a wider safety net in the future.
Currently, I am still an undergrad choosing my engineering major. I will be applying for both BSAE and BSME within a month. The difference between the two majors has been covered extensively, however my question remains pertaining to the path to obtaining a combination between the two as compare a straight focused path on one major. Any insight on the following questions would be much appreciated.
Does it even matter what your undergrad degree is when one’s graduate degree is different?
How will the job finding view one’s application when starting out with a BSAE then into MSME as compare to the vise-versa?
How about a straight path of aerospace engineering?
So the comparisons are:
BSAE to MSME
BSME to BSAE
BSAE to BSAE
BSME to BSME
My preference is aerospace engineering, however my interest is broad enough to even encompass mechanical engineering. Also mechanical engineering will keep many doors open, which will be very nice. Any insight would be very helpful.
