BU Arts students: How important are SAT subject tests for admission?

Hi! My D will be applying to the theater BFA this fall, and the website says the SAT subject tests are “recommended” for this major. This is the only school she’s interested in that suggests these tests in any way. We’re wondering if those of you who applied to or attend their arts programs with the same “recommendation” know if they were necessary or important. We’ll talk to the school, but we’d love to know from people’s experience if “recommended” really means “only people who submit them seem truly serious about getting in.”

Otherwise she’s a good academic fit, but testing is not her strong suit, and we doubt she’d pull scores that would sway admissions toward her. She’s working very hard on her audition preparation. We hear that BU is 50-50 in admissions (regular-audition). This is her first choice school, so she’d do what she has to. It’s a big deal though, that this would mean taking them or not taking them at all.

Thanks in advance for any advice!
