BU RISE vs UCSC SIP

Hi! I am a rising senior and I was accepted to both BU RISE and UCSC SIP this summer. After comparing these two programs, I found them really similar. I was wondering which one would benefit me more, and overall which one is more prestigious in terms of college applications. Thanks!

As for me, I’m going to UCSC SIP this summer.
These are a few of my personal reasons:

  • I live in the Bay Area so it’s closer
  • It’s cheaper (2700 compared to 4000)
  • The program lasts longer (10 weeks compared to 6)

Additionally, I like that SIP revealed the different research projects available. That way, I had a clear idea of what I wanted to do and I could prepare myself better. I’m also really interested in astronomy and SIP’s facilities with the Hyades supercomputer and other astro-data systems seemed too good of an opportunity to pass. SIP is the one for me!

There were also more Siemens semifinalists coming from SIP than RISE. Although I’m not particularly interested in competing, it appears to be evidence that SIP internships are more in depth.

These are my 2 cents. It’s entirely your decision. I hope you have a great summer!
