Boston university or Fordham University??

I actually am in this same situation. I have a choice between Fordham U or BU. I'm leaning towards BU right now because it's in a better (safer) area, and because I personally prefer Boston than New York. (I live in New York)
BU is also more well-known than FU is, but FU is quickly gaining recognition.
BU is much larger (I think) but Fordham has a beautiful campus.
BU is more of a party school than fordham is, but that doesn't mean Fordham kids don't know how to have fun. (Fordham is like 10 minutes from manhattan!)
Fordham is giving me 20K, BU is giving me jack-*****...
I dunno... I think BU is where I'm going...

I think all schools are "gaining recognition." It's difficult to think of a school that has "slipped." It may be a product of:

More applicants

The increasing difficulty of getting into the most prestigious schools has driven quality students - particularly girls - further afield.

Massive investment by schools. Fueled by cheaper money and modern financing practices, schools everywhere have built, built, built to make themselves attractive to students.

Better marketing. One of my daughters is now in 10th and has received dozens and dozens of college brochures, many with letters tailored to her specific indicated academic interests. All enabled by the net.

Is it real? Beats me.

Fordham is Jesuit. I know of a couple of incidents in which people who were friends with gay students there were verbally attacked by homophobes - in one case, a person was physically assaulted - and the school did absolutely nothing about it. These students, whom I personally know, transferred out. I'm not saying Fordham is a bad place but that their response to this kind of problem was simply awful.

i am in this same situation, i got into several other schools but fordham and bu are in my main focus
there are so many pros and cons for me, the biggest being that fordham has a better campus, but bu is in a better area (my opinion anyway), but i enrolled in the CAS there and i now want to be a business major...
ugh college is complicated

You do realize, I hope, that nothing is written in stone at your age and people change their majors, change their minds, change their careers all the time.

If safety is your concern, you should probably know that BU is considered one of the safest campuses in the country. At night, absolutely no one besides students walk along the campus and there are always other people out. I absolutely never feel unsafe here. I don't think people can say the same about Fordham, because I know I wouldn't want to walk too far away from the campus. And I'm not talking out of any BU bias. I used to live in the Bronx when I was young.
