btw BU’s grade deflation is a myth. I spoke to premed students at BU and they say that there is no such thing as grade deflation at BU. However, they said that most of the bigger science courses are graded on a bell curve.
Also, the only people that claim that there is grade deflation are the people who are trying to find an excuse for why they are doing poorly in a class.
Ended up choosing Tufts. Thanks for all the insight everyone. I figured debt free & a school like Tufts is hard to pass up. Yea it doesn’t have everything I wanted in a school (more diverse, larger) but it’ll be what I make of it & how I utilize my resources there. My fears of not being able to compete academically are still there, yes, but I think that over these last few months the people who surround me have helped me guide the way into a more positive attitude and yea I hope to maintain this ideal. Yea hopefully this post helps someone else maybe in the same situation as me. Follow your heart but also don’t let your emotions clog your mind.
Congrats
How are you liking tufts so far? Are you doing a premed track? I’m in the same boat right now and I don’t know which school to choose. I plan on going to dental school and I know that tufts is more prominent in that field.
@ch240139 Hey! Tufts is better than I thought. In general, the workload is quite a few notches up from high school. It’s definitely manageable, especially if you know how to manage your time (I have trouble with this). Bio 13 is one of the classes I’m taking this semester, and it’s what most freshman who are pre-med take the 1st semester. The content of the class isn’t bad at all but boy the tests are another thing. I didn’t do so well on the first test, but there’s still more tests to go so I’m definitely going to change my studying habits and honestly i didn’t know how to study well before college, & I’m learning that now I guess. They recommend at Tufts that you take only 1 lab science as a 1st semester freshman and to start with the one you’re stronger in (Chem or bio). I started with bio, some people started with Chem. Chem isn’t as much as a “weed out” class as bio, and I see why people say it’s a weed out class because getting low test scores is really discouraging and may cause people to drop the class (I’m gonna stick it through). Some people don’t listen to the advisors and take both Chem and bio in their 1st year- if you truly think you can handle it then go for it but from what the advisors said they said its best to do 1 lab science 1st semester. I might double up on bio 14 and Chem 1 next semester depending on how this semester goes. Ohh and yes I’m pre-med! I’m writing this at 3 am when I should be sleeping so I think I’ll end here lol. By the way what schools are you deciding between? If you have any other questions and all you can personally message me and I’ll answer any questions. Hope the college process of going well!
