One of the advantages my daughter sees in going to school at the big “college city” like Boston is meeting with students from other universities (as the opposite to living in the “bubble” of one single campus, like UC Davis, for example). But, I wonder, how many college students there (at BU as well as at other Boston institutions) are really finding the time or even the interest for meeting people from other schools … aren’t they too busy or too involved with their own campus life? Is it REALLY all that different from more isolated, “bubbly” campuses?

I’m a current student at BU and I met a good group of friends from BC that came to a BU poker charity event and I regularly play poker with them at their place off-campus now by BC. I feel like my experience isn’t out of the norm either.

I am from the Midwest. When I went to BU, most of the people I hung out with were also from BU, but I also visited with high school friends who ended up at schools in Boston or nearby. It is hard to ignore all Boston has to offer as a student at BU or NEU because you are right there in the middle of it. I would go to the North End for coffee and pastries, go to watch the marathon, go to games at Fenway, go shopping or just to hang out downtown, run or walk along the river, etc., etc. it would be boring to just stay on campus the whole time.
