I will be living off-campus in the new Terrapin Row starting fall 2016. I am paying 980ish a month, that includes rent, utilitie, and cable. How much should I budget for food/toiletries/etc. a month? I would like to cook the majority of my meals in the kitchen as I would like to start eating healthier.
I am guessing about $75 per week. It could be less or more, depending on your situation.
It depends on what you are budgeting for. If you are paying for books outside the budget, and you are just really talking about groceries and maybe eating out (cheaply) occasionally, then I think 250-300 a month should be plenty. If you are planning to go out a fair amount, and doing things like concerts, movies, and other events that cost a fair amount, then of course you need more. There is a COSTCO not too far away, but the grocery options close by are pretty limited. Hopefully you have access to a car or can do one of the on-line shopping services.
