I thought that was Ellen Greene! And I’m becoming a huge Foster fan. She is so funny.

This is my D’s and my guilty pleasure since she is home with us this summer. We love Kelly Bishop and are huge Gilmore Girls fans! The only thing with ABC family is I feel that the actors playing the girls are just so cheesy and their scenes are not well acted. I find this to be the same on most of the ABC family shows though, so I don’t know if it is the actors themselves or just the direction they are given.

D and I discovered this last night and caught up (there are only two episides so far, right?). I knew before I was told that this was from the maker of Gilmore Girls; the dialog has the same rat-a-tat pace. I cried at the end of Episode 2. I hope this one finds an audience and has a long run.

Maybe it was the success of Black Swan, but it seems that Hollywood has discovered that ballet studios are very dramatic places!

There are at least two other series going on now based on dance schools. My daughter is missing ballet so badly…

oooh…sexy rich guy in the small town…LOVE IT! And how about the whole pouring the wine thing?! I kept thinking, “Man, isn’t that bottle empty yet?” and then the last line where they made fun of it was priceless. I hope those teenage girls get better at acting…

And I hope they show some of the dancers’ mothers - we need a bit of Dance Moms in there, too!

No, we don’t need any dance moms, there is enough drama with the girls. I love the writing, so much like Gilmore Girls. My DD had the entire series, she got it for her birthday before she left for college and has had many GG parties in her dorm. I am having trouble though not thinking of Kelly Bishop as the Grandma in GG though, very similar characters.

I think tonight was my favorite episode so far! A good bit of character development, wit, great dialogue, and we even got Sutton singing and dancing! This show is GREAT!

If you have netflix- check out “Dance Academy”. It’s from Australia but the scripts are way more realistic and the teenagers actually talk like teenagers. Every actor also had to be a dancer. My daughter is hooked on this show. The scenery is stunning too!

My D and I love Dance Academy! We’ve been dragging out watching the two seasons because we don’t want it to end!

^ It is addicting isn’t it? There will be a third season according to the Internet!

If you are looking for a show about ballet, Bunheads isn’t it. Breaking Pointe is great and actually follows a real company (Ballet West).

Yup! I watch Breaking Pointe too! One of my cyber friends, who passed away this year, was a ballet master with them. His name was Mark Goldweber and he was in Neve Campbell’s movie The Company. Dance Academy is a good scripted drama for teenagers about teenagers. Both are better than Bunheads IMO!

I told my daughter we’d have to find Breaking Pointe – no idea when it’s on. Maybe it will be on Netflix soon.

Breaking Pointe is over now- it was a limited run, but a search on Google brings up a lot of places where you should be able to stream the past episodes. While I watched the show, If found that I was wishing for more dancing and less intrusion into personal lives that were manipulated for film.
I really liked Bunheads, at first, but it seems to be stuck in a rut of one-liners on just a couple of subjects. Give Kelly Bishop more to do and let’s see more dance from her and Sutton!
I’ll admit that I love Dance Academy!! Sydney provides a great background for filming and Tara Morice who was first a teacher and now the school director has been a favorite ever since stumbled upon the little film, “Strictly Ballroom”(look for it, it’s charming!). Both that movie and the first two seasons of Dance Academy are on Netflix and the latter is also everywhere on the Internet. A word of caution -Don’t watch the episodes out of order!!

Mezzo’sMama- THANK YOU! My daughter and I are in the middle of Season 2 of Dance Academy and because of my insomnia, I went ahead and put on Strictly Ballroom (It’s 2:15 a.m. and I just finished). I have always loved Tara as Ms. Raine on Dance Academy but now I have a new fondness after watching her in Strictly Ballroom. She was FANTASTIC! I think she is so beautiful and the way she danced in the movie was just gorgeous. She can play ugly and beautiful so well! WOW!

We will have to check out Dance Academy. Also, there is yet another dance show starting at the end of July–it’s called All the Right Moves and features Travis Wall, who is an amazing dancer and choreographer.

I just finished watching both seasons of Dance Academy on Netflix. I am so glad and a bit in withdrawal. And I second what Mezzo’sMama said about not watching the episodes out of order. The last 3 just about did me in. In a good way, though.

Bunheads is not so much about the dancing, though the Instanbul/Constantinople dance at the end of last week’s episode was delightful…

^Yay! Another convert! Isn’t the scenery just stunning! My daughter and I are both in withdrawal! No telling when we’ll get to see the third season here. Like I said, the teens actually talk like teenagers and some of them are really good dancers. I googled Issi Durant, the girl that plays Grace and saw her audition from Australia’s SYTYCD. She’s definitely more of a contemporary dancer. Anyway, so glad you liked it. I will check out Travis’ new show and the new one Nigel Lythgoe is putting together that’s supposed to be featuring auditions for a dance company that will be formed in 28 days.

My D and I dragged out Dance Academy as long as we could, but we finished this week while my husband was out of town. We cried and cried! Now who knows how long we’ll have to wait for Season 3?
