Burger King Scholars Semi-finals

Dear [dude] :),

Thank you for your application to the BURGER KING® Scholars Program. After carefully reviewing each eligible applicant's record, the committee has determined this year's winners. Unfortunately, you were not selected to receive the scholarship.

To assist you in understanding the selection process, you should be aware that there were many applications for the scholarships awarded for the 2008-09 academic year. Given the number of applicants in relation to the number of scholarships available, denying awards to many well-qualified applicants was unavoidable.

On behalf of the selection committee, I want to wish you every success in your educational pursuits.

Sincerely yours,

JR Simon

Program Manager

how/where did you recieve your notification. i still have not been notified.

Yeah; I got the same notification that AznPwyd received. I received via email sometime this afternoon or night.

has anyone actually gotten an email saying they've gotten it?

I've talked to the guy, the simon guy... he said non-winners get an email of denial and winners get a real MAIL in the, you know, MAIL...

and he said that emails were sent out last friday... and I still havent gotten that taboo email yet ! (the mails were mailed last friday/saturday too! )

Good Luck to those who havent received the email yet!

i got the scholarship. it came snail mail today in a regular envelope by scholarship administrators. i guess they began notifying winners this week so those that havent been notified maybe you got it

same here i recieved it today from the mail

May I know where do you live? I am in VA. Just want to figure out approximate when would the mail arrive at my house. Thank you!

What else did the mail say? Did they ask you to attend a recognition thingi or not?

im from sc, yea if u havent gotten an email, u are prolly getting the congratulatrions letter

got it. YES!!!!

This is my first scholarship I've won from SPA !!! thank You, God!!!!

(~Has been reading these threads since February and finally decided to join CC~)

Yes, I got it yesterday too!!! I thought it was going to be another rejection letter since it was only one sheet, but I saw the phrase '"Winner Acceptance Form" and just about screamed in the car! Haha, congrats and good luck to those still waiting! Word to the wise: Even if you do not win this one, KEEP APPLYING! This is my first acceptance out of a lotttttt of applications, TRUST me. It can be really frustrating and disappointing, but had I not applied for this I would not have gotten it either. I turned my attention to more local scholarships after losing hope with the big time national scholarships (like Gates Millennium that broke my heart :( ). Hopefully, May will bring me more success and free money for college! Good Luck!

YESSS!!!!!!!!

same here!!!! Mr. "I have a lot of X's in my username"

I applied to a LOT of national scholarship and to tell everyone the truth, this is the first ever I've ever gotten... and I'm sooooo happy that I got it (yeah!) to those to who didn't get it... I think it is this "match" thing (yes, even with the scholarships)... I've read threads where people with GREAT stats don't even get big scholarships and got beaten by other not-as-good students... and I started to get a feeling that scholarship selections are quite subjective and it depends on a lot of things (even the feelings of the judges at that time when they are looking at your little piece of application that has words on it)

so... good luck to everyone and keep on trying! Thank God for all outcomes though!

Actually that's Misses "I have a lot of X's in my username". (haha)

I know! I was thinking the same thing. I was wondering if SPA somehow matched the applicants to the best scholarship for them (ie. Burger King for Part-time workers) despite however many we applied for. However, I think I read some threads about students who were lucky enough to earn multiple scholarships, so I just figured my stats weren't as good on a national level as they could be (I guess). I started applying for scholarships since last summer, so my flash drive is FULL of applications, responses, essays, recommendation letters, etc. Even though this is the first I actually won, I'm glad that I started so early because now I am used to the whole application process and don't make as many newbie mistakes (like waiting until the last minute to pay attention to it...). Hopefully this improves my chances with the local scholarships now and the seniors who recently decided to start searching for scholarships. The other plus is the tons of essays I already have completed. For the most part, all I have to do is find the right combo from previous essays to suit the new topic, word count limit, and mission. :)

im from fl,
