Hi, I think I asked something like this before, but I wanted to ask again because I talked to my counselor and am seriously considering it now more than before. I’m a sophomore, and right now, I’m in 3 APs (Stats, APUSH, Chem). I have As in all of the classes, plus As in honors. Next year, I’m taking AP Calc BC, AP US Gov (Full year), AP Physics 1, AP English Lang, Personalized Medicine & Genomics Honors. I’m Independent Studying French V Honors and taking the AP French exam next year. I also have six DE credit hours from freshman year (2 classes).
I’ve already exhausted a lot of my school’s opportunities.I don’t have a math for senior year, but I want to major in STEM. I was told I could try to do DE Discrete and Linear Alg, but it is not a guarantee because the classes may be during school hours, and thus I may not be permitted. I don’t even know how I could have the 6 minimum number of credits without taking pointless electives that I’m not interested in and would bring down my GPA (like painting, cooking, etc.) I could also try to IS AP Physics C, but again, that’s no guarantee, especially if I’m independent studying French V junior year (I’ve reached the highest level of French offered this year).
I’m also kind of burnt out. I don’t study, and I don’t really do my homework unless absolutely necessary (bad study habits–I know). All the work I do is basically just for my APs. My grades have not suffered, though, as I’ve maintained solid As throughout the year. I know I could definitely push through an extra year of school, but I don’t know about two. I feel like if I just went to college a year early I might be more motivated to try harder next year in school and in college.
My ECs are alright, I have Varsity Cheerleading with a couple awards like All-American, hoping to be captain next year, and French Club/HS (hoping for leadership next year). My PSAT isn’t where I want it to be (1320), but that could just mainly be because I didn’t study for it (I wanted to see how I would do without). My SAT should be higher, as I have started studying. I think I’m going to do some volunteer work over the summer. I wanted to do an internship, but I don’t turn 16 until too late, so I could not do it for college apps if I wanted to grad early.
I’m sorry for the long post! But, I just wanted to see like what everyone’s opinions are and if it would just be better if I grad a year early. Or, should I just stick it out and try to figure everything out as I do have some harder reach schools (MIT, UT Austin (OOS), Rice)? Thanks for any input.
