Business at Emory vs IE at Gatech?

So I'm an upcoming sophomore at Georgia Tech majoring in industrial engineering because I got waitlisted at Emory my senior year and now I'm deciding whether I should try to transfer out. I'm hoping to go into management or financial consulting, but I've heard it's nearly impossible to get a job in any of the big consulting firms unless you go to an Ivy or a college where recruiting is heavy. I do want to get an MBA eventually, but I'm just worried about what to do right after I get my undergrad degree.

If I can get into Emory's Goizueta school my junior year and major in finance would that help me land a job where I could go into consulting easily? Or would getting an IE degree at Tech benefit me more (I've heard that many IE's do go into financial consulting and tech's IE program is ranked #1 in the country)? Any help is appreciated thanks!!!

Get some internship experience and have a good gpa and you will land a good consulting job. I graduated as an IE, I'm currently a management consultant in supply chain systems. Good Luck

Really, you can't go wrong in either program.

I'd probably finish up the IE at Georgia Tech, and then get an MBA at a top school (such as Emory) in finance or marketing after that. This is very common, and may be the best combination in the business world today.

Hey andresgy, can you tell me what you do every single day at work? I am still deciding on Industrial Engineering or Accounting. Do you sit on a computer all day long or work with a team of people? also do you feel IE is very rewarding?
Do recruiters rather hire an IE or a person with pure business?

Thanks, this will help me decide on which major i want.

do business at emory; at least apply
it cant hurt

I plan on getting my JD and MBA someday hopefully going into corporate law or finance.
But for undergraduate I'm applying to Emory, NYU, and California-Berkeley. Both NYU and Berkeley have top 5 ranked schools for finance (U.S. News & World Report).
1. Will an Emory degree in Finance and General Business or Business Management land me as high paying of a job out of college as would a degree from NYU or Berkeley?
2. Or is there any other recommended course I take if I want to persue a joint MBA and JD for corporate law or finance?

Thanks a lot

I was also wondering something else. Because I'll have to take on a huge debt to pay for Emory, would I be better off just going for free to Georgia Tech?
I would owe 75-100k if I go to Emory but hopefully it would pay off in terms of getting into law or business school and with getting a job before or during graduate school.

any advice welcome. thanks a lot

Oh wow I didn't even know I got replies. Thanks for the advice Calcruzer, andresgt!! I'm most likely going to finish up IE then.

I just got out of Tech as an IE and I'll recommend to finish up your IE. The knowledge and skills you earn as an IE is something that is hard to obtain, and besides, business is something you can pick up on your own or on the job.

Most Tech IEs will end up getting into consulting, so you don't have to worry, firms like Capgemini, Accenture, IBM, Deloitte and tons other, including the big management consulting firms will continue to hire from Tech, so I wouldn't really worry about your opportunities. And yeah, if you take the Emory debt into factor, your ROI from Tech is going to be far superior. Since you're planning on getting your MBA anyway, I'd strongly encourage you to stay as an IE.

My deciding factor between IE and Business was what my high school counselor told me: You can be an engineer as an undergrad, but you can't be an engineer after you graduate. Most other majors (excluding CS and Architecture, etc) you can pick up the essentials without having to go through the 4 year program.
