I can't decide..should I major in business management or hospitality management? What a the cons and pros? Please I really need some help. I wanna some day manage a concert venue.

None of the above. You would be better off doing marketing.

do you know a lot about business? i heard business management is for people who are know about business and want to gain more knowledge and understanding. If not then Business administration. Hospitality requires long hours (60 hr weeks give or take) and its not fun.

What do you want to do when you get out of college?

I want to manage a entertainment center like a place were people go to see concerts or sports events.

If I were you, I would major in Business Management. Just because it is so broad, that you have opportunities to narrow down what you really want to major in…Seems like you want to major in Sport Management rather then Hospitality Management.

UConn and UMass are top competitive schools relating to that major.

Do you honestly think people would hire you as a manager just because you have majored in management when you have no experience?

No. I just wanna major in something that will teach me the skills needed to be a good manager in the industry I want someday (not right away). So I’m asking which major will be most beneficial for going into managing concert and sport centers.

The point he was making is that a business management degree offers you no “skills”. Its just a bunch of theories that are meaningless without experience. Business management degree grads manage Burger Kings.

I think you will find that the folks managing these types of places got there in different ways. Why don’t you write to some of the managers and ask? You might even get lucky and one will be willing to meet with you. Are you close enough to any of these venues that you could get a job? Yes, you will be working the consession stand or some such, but you have to start somewhere. If you continue to work there through college over time you are bound to make some contacts. Look at this
