I am an Equine Studies with two concentrations in Equine Management and Equine Training. Contrary to its name, Equine Management has very few business classes, one to be exact. The other 12 credits are equine-specific with a three credit elective from any of the other concentrations. I am finding it very difficult though to find opportunities in the horse industry. It is highly competitive, and even finding an internship has been in a nightmare, and so I have thought about limiting any future employment issues with either a minor, double major, or graduate degree in business.
The Business minor at my university is 24 credits and is very general. I like it the most, but I’m not enirely sure it would be enough for employers outside the equine industry. The financial aid office has approved my scholarship for a fifth year though for me to do the 57 credit hour double major with Business if I so choose. It is most extensive of the options since it requires so much additional work. Lastly, there is the MBA. While it is the most expensive of the three options, it would allow me to study what I actually want to do for my undergraduate degree. I have heard though that the MBA tends to make people over-qualified when looking for a job.
I need your advice. Please note that this is not something I am using valuable credits on that I could otherwise be using for internships or hands-on experience. My university requires 124 credits to graduate, while my major comes just a little 30 short from. Also not being able to drive, having no access to public transportation, and not having friends willing to drive me makes it an impossible option for me anyway.
Please let me know which one you think is best to be the most employable after graduation.
