BUSINESS VS Petrol.ENG VS MEDICINE

Bottom line. I am weak in math. By Weak I mean C to B level. I want to major in business or in petroleum engineering (because of its good salaries and exotic locales and because of demand for oil now). My strengths are reading comprehension and memorization. I am very good in Biology. My family has a history of medical practitioners. I am a good student (3.8-4.0 gpa).

Business? Pet. Engineering? Medicine? Those are my three choices. I want to be done with school as soon as possible but I might like Medicine because of the lack of math courses within it. I have always been business oriented throughout my life. Business is my first choice but I believe I may struggle with the math courses. If I am struggling with REGULAR math courses now...!

Go with your sincere interest - business.

As for the math, I would also suggest that you pop down to your guidance counselor's office and say "Hey folks, how come I get As in literature without working, and get Cs in math even though I work like crazy in that class? This mom I know says that she thinks that I may have an un-identified learning disability. She tells me that you can set me up with the school psychologist to take some screening tests to find out for sure." And then pester your school until they find the right people who can help you learn how to learn math. It's not that you can't do math, it's just that it is going to take you longer to master those skills than it does for some other folks.

Good Luck!

If you're worried about the amount of math in business then I wouldn't recommend even considering PetE.

If math is not your thing then engineering is not your thing. I'm a petroleum engineering major and I love math. But even I have to take breaks. You can sometimes have your eyes cross on you, lol. But math is something you have to work at my friend. Find a practice algebra book that will teach you the fundamentals, math is all about the rules.

You should go pre-med and then get a business degree and open up your own clinic or whatever. haha.

Yeah I guess any engineering field was way off base. I have always been a business type guy you know?

For those in business how much Math is involved? I know there calculus is taken in the first year and all but is it all that hard?

And I do not want to confuse anybody; i'm not struggling in Math in that I fail it. I am in (regular) Calculus right now in 12th grade as I should be. So its not like I am behind; its just that I never was a math type of guy.

If you are in Calculus in 12th grade, you are well ahead of most of the HS students in this country. Don't worry about doing Calculus again in college because much of it will be a repeat of this year's course.

If you do business you'll take business calculus which consists of marginal costs, cost functions, calculating intersets using equations like P(T)= P0(1+r)^t. Easy crap. Its a **** in the wind compared to normal college calc. You'll do fine. I have a friend of mine that is a finace major, and he made a B in business calc. And let me tell you, if this guy can make a B in it. You can definately make an A in it. Were talking about someone who has trouble making C's in mass communication. Or, maybe he just started studying, who knows, lol.
