Best undergraduate major to become investment banker?

Recently lots of iBankers are actually getting Economics degrees as opposed to business. At some schools, ex. many of the Ivies and Stanford undergrad, that’s all they even offer. As to which school to attend to go into investment banking, generally, the more selective the better. Harvard and Penn (Wharton) produce a lot, as do Stanford and even MIT. You can get a really strong Econ. background from LACs but the alumni connections there are weaker compared to other schools. I would say if you can get into them take the following: Wharton (Finance, Business Analytics), Harvard (Economics), Columbia (Finance), Vanderbilt (Economics), Duke (Business or Econ.), University of Virginia (Finance), University of Texas (Finance, specialize in iBanking or Hedge Funds), UNC Chapel Hill (Financial Accounting and Analysis). But those public schools I listed last are not recruited at as heavily so you would need to distinguish yourself, seek internships, and then get into a solid grad school after. Good luck, and make sure you have a complete understanding of what investment banking really is, lol cause it’s no joke.

I would say Finance or Business with concentration in Finance. Obviously, Wharton is #1. However, the majority of the Ivies don’t have undergrad business programs. That being said, you are pretty much set even if you study economics at an Ivy. Some non Ivies that have great finance programs that also have great recruiting include

University of Michigan (Ross)
Northwestern University (you take concentration in finance)

Easily Wharton

Meh you can become a soul-sucking leech at any of the top schools mentioned xD.
