Have you heard that expression from someone talking about Hopkins? It reflects an image of Baltimore that is decades outdated or from a reality tv show. I've lived in a dozen or so cities, most on the west coast but some in the east, and none offered more than Baltimore. Neighborhoods like Charles Village, Little Italy, and Fells Point give Baltimore a small town feel but go to the harbor and your world is transformed into a cosmopolitan fiesta. And speaking of feasts, the choice of restaurants, cafes and things to do is as broad and deep as youd find anywhere. If you want to live an upscale suburban life while in school? Go to Cross Keys or Roland Park. Roland Park is right next to the Homewood campus. Want seafood? Go to almost any block. Those who talk about Baltimore as a economically depressed city have not been there for decades. If you are visiting the city, go to the harbor, attend one of the hundreds of fairs, walk around Charles village. It is a great city.
