Buying a cello case

We're looking to buy our D (a rising college sophomore) a cello case. She is not a music major, but last semester played in an audition-based ensemble at her college and had a locker in the music building to keep her cello. She may not continue in the ensemble this semester due to time constraints, but wants to keep playing and would alternatively join a less demanding student-run ensemble. (I don't know if she would continue to have access to a locker.) The case she has now came with the cello when we bought it and is large, heavy, and without wheels. The case we are considering, after some Internet browsing, is the Bobelock #2000. Price is a consideration-we want to pay under $500. Any advice is welcome or alternative suggestions are welcome!

I would suggest talking to Ellen at cellos2go.com.

Do you need to take the cello on an airplane - or just transport it in a car? We bought a used BAM cello case with wheels from a professional player - which we found on Craigslist for only $250. New it would cost about $900. Then we bought a flight cover for it which cost $600 and took 6 months to deliver! But we needed that for auditions, and college.

I would suggest calling Linda West at lindawest.com. If you can spend just a few more dollars, the Eastman K-1 is much lighter than the Bobelock.

Get in touch with Ellen or Linda - they are two reputable cello people and know what’s best for you. Their prices are fair and they will have what you need.

Thank you for your suggestions. I will have my D follow up and make a couple of phone calls.
