On my son’s text book list it says ‘choose 1 of 2’. Does anyone know what that means? There are 2 text books listed for Chem 127-21 - does he pick one or the other?? It says the same for his Math 141-02 class.

Also, what condition are the ‘used books’ in? Are they really ‘highlighted’ alot? It would be nice to save some money buying used, expecially in the non-major classes.

I was unclear about the choice 1 of 2 thing as well. My son and I decided to get the books from the CP bookstore for the first quarter. they get them and box them up for him and will have them ready during WOW week. We asked for used books, but not sure if they will be available. His job for the second quarter is to get the books from some other source if it is more economical. I also told him he had better sell these back to the bookstore!!! As for the condition of the book, that is a good question. My son does not highlight, but I am not sure if reading a used book where someone else has highlighted will bother him. I told him that he should keep any books that he finds useful for his major.

When D and I first looked at the required books for her currently assigned 3 classes we both were in ‘sticker shock’ thinking we needed to purchase all items listed. After a closer look I noticed the ‘choose 1 of 2’ option and also found it confusing. I spoke with a very helpful and knowledgeable person at the bookstore. Here’s the story.

Some courses offer a choice of require text configurations. For example, option 1 is the textbook and workbook as one item, option 2 is the textbook + workbook in the form of unbound pages. If the student drops the class, the unbound workbook can not be returned whereas a textbook can be up to a certain point.
