"BYU Once Again Nation's Most Popular University"

And last year, BYU basketball had a pretty exciting run in the NCAA basketball tournament…

^^And having another fine year this year. BYU men’s baketball team is currently ranked #9 nationally with a record of 18-1.

67.1% - Go Big Red!

And well done to UAF as well.

But I’ve never heard a BYU grad complain about educational quality.

Have you ever heard a BYU grad complain about * anything*?
Most of the Mormons I know, are excessively cheery, especially around the Gentiles.
;)

People who are accepted at Harvard weigh that offer against acceptances at the other Ivies, MIT, Stanford, etc. and face tough decisions. Two out of three choose Harvard.

BYU competes for yield against BYU-Idaho and BYU-Hawaii, and one out of four accepted BYU applicants still choose to go elsewhere.

It works both ways though - I know some people (LDS) who were accepted at some pretty top schools but chose BYU because it’s BYU. BYU has attributes that attract some high achievers outside of the typical ‘rank’ and ‘selectivity’ - namely, lots of other people of the same mind-set attending, a lifestyle that appeals to them, and the ability to meet lots of potential acceptable mates.

LOL. If yield = popularity, then the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (67.1% yield) is “more popular” than Yale (66.8%), Penn (61.3%), Princeton (59.8%), Columbia (56.7%), Brown (53.5%), Cornell (48.5%), and Dartmouth (48.0%).

Dirt cheap tuition ~A requirement to take Mormon classes ~ Great place to meet a husband if you are a Mormon…

I think that both in “yield” and “popularity”, University of Phoenix would finish on top.

^^ Yield yes (anyone who’s willing to pay?) but popularity - not on a per campus basis.

There was an interesting point made in the well known (and oft discussed on CC) paper by Avery et al on “Revealed Preference Ranking”, that in the Mountain West region of the country that includes Utah, BYU actually did rank 6th overall. Basically, in that region, even when you only look at students who are cross-admitted to BYU and another college in the country, the only colleges that are preferred over BYU are HYPS and Caltech.

Quoting from that paper:
