CA Private Colleges?

I applied to a few UC's, one private, and two CSU's. I heard it was better to attend a private school (with more grants. etc)?

Is there any list of California private colleges, by prestige?

Thanks!

Pomona
Harvey Mudd
Claremont McKenna
USC

just to name a few

A few more:

Caltech
Chapman
Loyola Marymount
Mills (females only)
Occidental
Pepperdine
Pitzer
Santa Clara
Scripps
Stanford
U Redlands

I have a friend who chose Pomona College over USC, Pomona is a LAC. I agree with ^ the lists so far but order of prestige may be Stanford, Caltech, Pomona, USC…

It would depend on your income and stats whether a private college would be feasible or financially better. That certainly works if you are poor and have high stats, but the theory would not work for most. Don’t forget most CA privates will include any home equity you have as an asset, making many CA families look wealthier on paper.

Deep Springs College (males only)
University of San Diego
University of San Francisco

Pacific in Stockton

You will have a better sense in the spring after you see your financial aid offers.
Large awards from private schools are not as importance as the total cost of attendance. Also look at the amount of aid that is “free” versus loans.

I’d probably have to agree with rcwhite. Pomona is much more difficult to get into than most students think!

What are your stats?

You might get more grants from a private school, but if the overall cost of the private is $50k, then $15k in grants won’t make it less expensive than a UC or Cal State. So, you won’t necessarily be any better off. You’d have to get quite a sizeable grant to make it less than $30k per year.

The better your stats are the better your chances of grants and scholarships. What are your stats?

The below give generous scholarships…
U San Francisco
St. Mary’s of California
