Just wondering...would I need my Cal 1 Card on the first day of school? Do the professors/TAs check our cards or anything? I didn't get my card yet, so I want to see if I should get it before school starts.

You need it for dining, and that's about it.

Besides, that, other possible uses are
* Keycards - you need them for after-hours access to many campus buildings
* Exams - some professors may check them (Chem 1A, most notably)-but most don't

In order to be identified as a registered student, you need a Cal 1 Card on hand; you also need it for sporting event admissions. Get it as soon as you come on campus.

You also need to get your class pass to put on your card. This will get you on the bus, and you cant get it without your card.

Errr and fairly importantly: you need to swipe in to your dorm after 5pm at the security monitor booth. Or else I guess you could have a friend sign you in, but then you still need to have some form of ID.

what about getting ur classpass for the bus? when can i get that? that's the the cal-one card place right?

You get your classpass at the Cal1Card office in Lower MLK. The lines are pretty long for it the first few days; bring a friend to stand in line with you and chat

You don't need to go and wait for the class pass.

"You may request your Class Pass online beginning Monday, August 21, 2006. Follow the instructions on screen. Your Class Pass will be sent via US Postal Service and you should receive it within 8 to 10 business days."

can you request your classpass at the same time when talking your picture for the CAL 1 Card?

and do we immdiately get the CAL 1 Card? or is it mailed to our dorms?

I thought that most people got their Cal1Card at CalSO. Hmm. Well, anyway, you can go get your card at the Cal1Card office which is on Lower Sproul; you take a quick photo and then your card's immediately printed

The classpass was distributed just outside the office last fall, but it's not the same line as getting your ID card.

Do I need to get a new cal1card? I already got one last year when I was a freshman. Do I need to renew it? Or do I use this card for the remainder of my time at berkeley?

no it's the same card

"Errr and fairly importantly: you need to swipe in to your dorm after 5pm at the security monitor booth. Or else I guess you could have a friend sign you in, but then you still need to have some form of ID."

Only for Units 1-3. I didn't have to do this for Foothill.

Didnt have to do it for clark kerr either.

I would have gotten my card at CalSO if I had gone to that. I didn't go since Berkeley charges $185 for an orientation, which is insane.

I got my Cal 1 Card at CalSO, is the meal plan already encoded?

You can check all your Cal 1 Card info here: http://services.housing.berkeley.edu/c1c/static/index.htm

If you login you can check if your card has meal points on it. That's probably the best way to check if the meal plan is active.

Thanks a ton, eudean.
