Cal Grant Domino Effect

The state of California is about to create a “lost generation” if they get rid of Cal Grants. Not only will if directly affect the low income students who get Cal grants, but it will also reduce the amount of UC grants and other scholarships for the rest of the students. This will dramatically increase the amount of loans the students will be saddled with, which will reduce their savings rate once they start working (if they can find work). This is a very slippery slope. California, don’t balance your budget on the backs of our children.

I was under the impression that the legislature took a step towards protecting Cal Grants quite recently?

They did, but it’s not a done deal yet. It’s always possible things can change… the governator could always veto it and it wouldn’t surprise me if he did.
