why does it say im married
is this the error? how can i fix this

Okay, then email them right away and try to call them ASAP. Since you did everything you were supposed to, they should AT LEAST give you loans. If you had done it a bit earlier (before they disbursed the money) you would have been more likely to get some more money in your University Grant… but I wouldn’t really count on that now. If they do, that’s great. The good thing is, they were really nice to me when I explained my situation, and they really did help, so I’m sure they will be very understanding of your relationship as well. Can you tell me if they list any reason for your denial?
Anyway, like I said, email them ASAP. The email I used was FinAid@sa.ucsb.edu.
Also, remember that you can always apply for the Cal Grant again next year, and hopefully you will get it, depending on the reason you were denied. So even if you end up taking out more loans/paying more this year, it does not necessarily mean that you will have to pay the same amount in the next couple of years.

Good luck!!

do i call ucsb or csac

OH, I see. You were awarded the Cal Grant B, not the Cal Grant A. You may want to ask about the difference in the Financial Aid forums here, but most people actually recommend trying to switch the Cal Grant B, because you can use those funds for books and personal expenses, rather than JUST tuition. Also, after your first year, I believe the Cal Grant B increases a LOT, and is actually more than the Cal Grant A. I’m not sure, definitely ask in the financial aid forums on CC.

You still need to email UCSB and tell them you were awarded Cal Grant B, not Cal Grant A, so that they can make up the difference, whether it be in grants or loans. Again, when the economy was better, they would usually replace the difference with more money in your UC grant, but since it is kind of late and the economy is bad, the only thing they may be able to offer is loans. Still, they definitely will try to help you in some way, and the Cal Grant will increase next year, so it’s good news. :)

the thing is the cal grant is under section C which is possible and section A (where its suppose to be) are things u are given.

Well, it probably hasn’t been updated yet. Since you’ve been awarded it, you should expect to receive it, don’t worry. Has it been updated to your BARC account yet? I recommend emailing UCSB and telling them:

You were awarded Cal Grant B, not A, so they can adjust the aid they have given you.

Your cal grant has not yet been moved to section A, and asking when you should expect it to be credited to your BARC account.

i wasnt accreditted anything yet. its not even up on my barc acc.
i emailed them.

Are you an incoming freshman?

I remember last year I was awarded the Calgrant B and for some reason it took really long to get it; longer than any of my friends. (gonna be a sophomore)

The Calgrant that will give you the most money over time will be automatically accepted for you. So as long as CSAC and the school says you should be getting it, you will. Anyways, call the cal grant people and the school to make sure everything is in order.

oh and I think i remember that they also messed up my MARITAL STATUS. for some reason they put me as married, i called them to ask if it mattered they said no and i think they fixed it.

They have me as married to but on my FAFSA I put I am single. I don’t think it matters.

Uhm you guys need to read whats entirely on the page.

"
If the Dependency Status field is Dependent, your parents information is displayed (marital status, family size, family in college, total income, net worth, registered domestic partner).
If the Dependency Status field is Independent, your information is displayed."

You guys most likely put that you guys are DEPENDENT, and the information displayed is for your PARENTS.

So the information displayed is CORRECT.

So, we won’t be getting our Cal Grants before the deadline, Sept. 15?

I believe the UC’s are paying the Cal Grants out of their own pocket temporarily since they’re coming in from the state late, so you should be getting them on time. Don’t quote me though.

does cal grant A go into barc accounts? if not where is the money disimbursed to

Has anybody gotten their Federal Direct Subsidized Loans credited through their BARC account yet? :(

my direct subsidized loan went through yesterday, and i accepted it on monday.
when did you accept yours?

and gaahhh. my cal grant still isn’t in section A on my award letter. i wonder why.

Thanks for replying. Mine did too.

Check page 7 to see if it has been offered to you.
