Cal Poly Pomona Fall 2022 Admissions - Class of 2026

As a local applicant, he gets priority but no guarantee if he applied to an impacted major. Did he list an alternate major? It cannot hurt to accept the waitlist and then withdraw if he gets into other top choice schools. Once all the rest of the CSU’s and UC’s post decisions, there could be movement on the waitlist earlier than May 1.

I can’t remember if he applied to an alternate major. I thought he did for every school, but I need to check CPP. He’s got a show all week (tech theater) so we’ll talk more about what he wants to do this weekend. Thankfully he’s not particularly upset, but I think it tells us a little about what to expect from UCSD (already a long shot). His list was UCSD, CPP, UCR… He is in at UCR so I think he may just go there.

I work in higher ed (not in the state system) and it is astounding how competitive it is. I thought for sure with a 4.2W, lots of leadership stuff, and being a local kid, he’d get in to CPP. But alas.

I’m sorry your son was waitlisted. I wonder if the friend took more quantitative courses or had a higher GPA in those courses. It seems these are important according to this sheet (which
was linked above or in the sdsu thread) – https://www.calstate.edu/attend/counselor-resources/Documents/2021%20-%202022%20CSU%20Campus%20Admission%20Factors%20Summary.pdf

Once the sting wears off I think your son should accept the waitlist - if he was so similar to an accepted student, it might mean he’s near the top. Good luck.

Does anyone know if freshman are guaranteed housing?

Housing is required for non-local HS students but it is on a first come basis

All first-time freshmen who graduated from a non-local high school are required to do one of the following to be eligible to enroll for classes.

  1. Complete a housing application (student housing license agreement) and pay the initial housing fee
  2. Receive an approved exemption from the First-Year Residential Requirement

Please note, submission of an application does not guarantee a student a Housing assignment. Assignments for housing will be given with priority to those that apply early.

Is there an Admitted Students Day or Open House? D admitted, we are in state but not local and trying to plan which colleges to visit in the next few weeks. We cannot seem to find this information readily! TIA

There was a Virtual Open House last year in April but I do not see anything on the website for this year. I would contact admissions.

Leaning towards UCD

I don’t see anything on the admitted day either. We are flying in for an on-campus tour on April 5th but it would be nice to have something more than a 1-1/2 campus tour.

My son is in the same boat, but for mechanical engineering. UCR seems like the best bet, but I think he is holding out hope on the waitlist. It’s a huge bummer as that’s his dad’s alma mater too.

Any particular reason your kiddo is leaning towards UCD? Full disclosure, our DS is leaning towards UCSC, “more chill” and close to Silicon Valley ; )

We’re on the waitlist at CPP but not holding my breath in this crazy cycle!

Not sure if anyone still has questions about an admitted student day for CPP. I believe each individual college department has their own open house (which is like admitted student day). For example, my daughter’s major is in the College of Agriculture and their open house is on April 9th.

OOS D heard back from Kellogg Honors College today. Does anyone have experiences to share?

Has anybody received word back from the Kelloggs Honors College about a decision?

I still haven’t receive a decision from Cal Poly, is it gonna be a rejection from them?

My son just received an email notifying him that he’s been accepted for aerospace engineering after being waitlisted on March 7.

I heard someone got accepted off the waitlist for STEM major (either CS or Engineering) recently, like couple of days ago, and the kid is in-state local HS grad. Just curious if others have any updates from the WLs. Thanks!
