Hi knowledgeable people.
My DD is trying to decide between Liberal Studies or Art and Design (graphic design concentration) major at Cal Poly Slo. She wants to go into teaching or become a graphic designer but know the needs to apply to CP with one or the other. She also knows they are in different colleges so not easy to change. To be honest, either is a reach for her so she is trying to apply to the one that she has the best chance of admission. I believe the admit info is by college so not super helpful. Does anyone have any info on which major is easier to get into? Hopefully by the time she has to choose a college she will feel less confused about her major. Thanks in advance.
For 2020 projections, SLO estimated 642 applicants for 55 spots in Art and Design. If you use a standard 33% yield, this makes it a 26% acceptance rate.
For Liberal Studies, there was an estimate of 501 applicants for 95 spots making this major around a 57% acceptance rate.
Although Liberal Studies has an higher acceptance rate, the admitted stats for all students in the College of Science and Mathematics is higher than for the College of Liberal Arts.
Since all majors are impacted at SLO, there is really no easier major for admission purposes since SLO does not break out the GPA stats for admitted students by major.
