***Cal State Los Angeles - Class of 2021 (Fall 2017 Application) Decisions***

Quick question- are you an in State student or OOS? Cal states tend to give priority to in state students. So if you are an OOS student, maybe that’s why they are still considering your application.

@lyricjohnson
@Highlander96

I just got the same email from them. I think they are considering me OOS due to the fact that I use to attend college in Washington DC but I’m originally from Los Angeles. Cal state DH considered me OOS but I’m planning on sending proof of resindency right away.

@almaa_card123 I am in state, but not in local area. Even though I am LA County, Cal Poly Pomona is considered my local school.

@danninc I’m originally from Las Vegas, but I became instate two years ago. All of the Cal States consider me instate, but non of the UC’s do.

@danninc if i am correct, you have to have presently lived in CA for 3 years (maybe 2, I’m not sure) in order for you to be considered an instate student. You should call them and ask about your current situation.

Accepted // Denied: Accepted
Instate // OOS: Instate
Intended Major: Undecided with an interest in Nursing
CSU GPA: 3.94
SAT // ACT: SAT (1010)

Congratulations @almaa_card123

@danninc @almaa_card123 It’s one year prior to enrolling at a CSU after you turn 19. So you can’t move here to California and immediately enroll at a CSU. It sucks because someone OOS fresh out of high school would have to either take 2 1/2 (depending on when their 19th birthday hit).

Establishing Residence for Cal States:

Generally, establishing residence in California for tuition purposes requires a combination of physical presence and intent to remain indefinitely.
An adult who, at least one full year prior to the residence determination date for the term in which enrollment is contemplated, has been both physically present in the state and also has timely evidence of the intent to remain in California indefinitely, may establish residence in California for tuition purposes. A minor derives residence from the custodial parent or the parent with whom the minor child most recently resided.
Evidence demonstrating intent will vary from case to case but shall include, and is not limited to, the absence of residential ties to any other state, California voter registration and voting in California elections, maintaining California vehicle license plates and driver’s license or I.D. card, maintaining active California bank accounts, including California income tax returns, owning or leasing residential property or renting an apartment where permanent belongings are kept, maintaining active membership
in California professional or social organizations, and maintaining a permanent military address and home of record in California.
Non-citizens establish residence in the same manner as citizens unless precluded by federal law from establishing domicile in the United States.
Exceptions to the general residence requirements are contained in California Education Code sections 68070-68121 and Title 5 of the California Code of Regulations, sections 41906-41906.5, and include, but are not limited to, members of the military and their dependents and certain credentialed employees of school districts and certain high school students who have attended three full years of high school in California and attained the equivalent to high school graduation.
Whether an exception applies to a particular student cannot be determined before the submission of an Application for Admission and, as necessary, additional supporting documentation. Because neither campus nor Chancellor’s Office staff may give advice on the application of these laws, applicants are strongly urged to review the material for themselves and perhaps consult with a legal advisor.
Non-resident students seeking reclassifiation are required to complete
a supplemental questionnaire including questions concerning their financial dependence, which will be considered along with physical presence and intent in determining reclassification.
