Cal Tech Business/ English

I was just wondering about the strength of these departments;I've always thought cal tech was only math/ science related. Now I think I will apply.

The small freshmen class is so enticing.

Hmm. You certainly shouldn't come here if you want to concentrate on Business and English, at least probably not. Your first two years will be filled with hard math and physics, chemistry, and biology core requirements. (Five terms of math! Five terms of physics, including quantum mechanics, etc.!) The business courses here are highly quantitative. There are literature courses, but not that many. You'd feel like an odd duck.

If you are the sort of English/Business major who would like to also have one of the best quantitative educations available anywhere, then apply. Otherwise, a small LAC or an Ivy like Brown would be perfect for you.

When I visited Caltech, my friend informed me that there was indeed one person that was a literature major. Apparantly, s/he's taking every single literature course there is, because otherwise there wouldn't be enough classes for a major.

So there you have it. It is possible. However, if you plan to commit yourself to literature, you'd be much better off at a number of other institutes. The Millikan Library wasn't built to house Shakespeare, after all.

ooh...i see. thank you very much, I definitely won't be applying. the core classes definitely aren't for me. thanks again

Not a problem.

Good luck in all your endeavours,
Timur
