Hi hi guys!
So.... I just got admitted from the UCLA wait-listing!..
but I committed to CAL already

I'm planning to major in mechanical engineering, and obviously CAL engineering would be a better choice but I'm kind of hesitant because so many people have been saying CAL engineering is cutthroat and what not...

So.. what I'm asking you guys is.. is UCLA engineering just as hard as CAL engineering or is it much easier? I thought it would be pretty hard since UCLA is in quarter system, and Berkeley is in semester system.

Anyways, thanks for reading and please HELP ME DECIDE! Thanks :)

Quarter versus semester system just divides up courses differently. E.g. the freshman and sophomore math sequence is divided into six quarter length courses versus four semester length courses.

If there are any specific subareas of mechanical engineering that you are particularly interested in, you may want to check the faculty research interests and course listings to see if either school offers more in-major electives in those subareas. Or if there is some out of major subject you want to study as well, check the course offerings in that subject at each school.

Is net cost after financial aid the same at each? Are the non-academic differences of any significance to you?

UCLA engineering is definitely not easier than Cal engineering. Based on my friends’ experiences at UCLA and my experiences at Cal, the two schools teach roughly the same things, with similar difficulty levels. Cal engineering is probably viewed as more prestigious, though.
